Culture Counts Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 13, 2026
Overview
Culture Counts is an offline-friendly fermentation journal and batch tracker. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app may store or process and how that information is used.
Information You Enter
The app may store information you choose to enter, including batch names, batch numbers, ferment types, ingredients, recipe instructions, salt calculations, reminders, notes, log entries, photos, ratings, results, and custom types or recipes.
You are responsible for the information you enter, including any personal, sensitive, health-related, dietary, or identifying information in notes or photos.
Storage and iCloud
Your batch data is stored on your device and may sync through your private iCloud database when iCloud is available and enabled. This lets your data be available across your devices signed in to your Apple account.
We do not operate a custom account system or separate server backend for your private batch data.
Photos
If you attach photos to log entries, those photos are stored as part of your app data and may sync through iCloud with the rest of your batch data. Be careful about what photos you attach, especially if they contain people, locations, labels, or other identifying information.
Reminders and Notifications
Culture Counts uses local notifications for reminders if you grant permission. Reminder information is used to schedule notifications on your device. Notifications are not a food safety guarantee, and you remain responsible for monitoring anything you make, ferment, store, eat, drink, serve, or share.
Community Recipes and App Content
The app may fetch app-provided ferment types and community favorite recipes from a public iCloud database. This content is used to help you start batches. Your private batch data is separate from this public recipe catalog.
Purchases and Subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are handled through Apple and the App Store. Culture Counts may use a purchase management service to understand whether you have an active entitlement, unlock paid features, and restore purchases. Purchase processing may involve identifiers and transaction information needed for subscription management.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your batch journal for targeted advertising. Data may be processed by Apple, iCloud, App Store services, and purchase-management services as necessary to provide app functionality, sync, notifications, purchases, and subscriptions.
Food Safety Responsibility
Culture Counts helps you track fermentation information, but it does not verify that your food or drink is safe. You need to be careful. You are responsible for ingredients, sanitation, temperatures, storage, pressure buildup, contamination, spoilage, allergies, and anything you make, eat, drink, serve, or share.
Deleting Data
You can delete batches, reminders, log entries, ingredients, and other app content within the app where deletion controls are available. You may also be able to manage app data through your device and iCloud settings.
Children
Culture Counts is not intended for children to use without appropriate adult supervision. Fermentation and food preparation can involve real safety risks.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes means the updated policy applies.
